Senior Resource Manager

We’re looking for a passionate Resource Manager to join the Crew at Big Spaceship. Big Spaceship is a digital agency in Brooklyn that brings together product design, brand communications and social content to help businesses thrive. We’re also a little weird, extremely collaborative, and sometimes communicate entirely in gifs. We’re currently growing our capabilities and are looking to round out our team with a Resource Manager who will collaborate with Client Services, Production and Discipline Leads to oversee the agency bandwidth, daily allocations and resourcing needs.

As the Big Spaceship Resource Manager, you must be a solution-oriented thinker, understand the depth and breadth of our offering, and be able to manage our staff resources with the utmost care. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of the digital marketing and product world, best practices around how a small and lean team works, and great knowledge of resource management tools and team communication. We’re looking for the ultimate people-person. Someone who is both strategic and hands-on and 100% committed to finding the best person for a job while ensuring our team is never overextended or underutilized.


Role + Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Account Management and Production team to understand statements of work and scopes that drive resource needs and identify the best skillset for the work
  • Liaise with Project and Discipline Leads to understand, communicate and manage team resource needs, making recommendations based on clear knowledge and understanding of team member skill sets across all seven disciplines (Client Services, Art/Copy/Design, UX, Technology, Strategy, Analytics, Social) against the work at hand
  • Monitor team bandwidth and maximize utilization across resources
  • Manage and maintain weekly resource allocation meetings with Project and Discipline Leads
  • Escalate to the appropriate Discipline Lead any information related to team member rotations, retention/employee relations, increase or decrease in workflow and projected staffing needs
  • Help identify and source freelance candidates through ongoing external relationship building, our internal database, job boards, social networking sites, portfolio sites, etc. (existing rolodex of strong freelance contacts a major plus) to support our resources when overutilized
  • Prepare freelance request paperwork in collaboration with Group Production Directors and Human Resource Manager
  • Support with Full Time recruitment when needed
  • Deliver the highest level of quality of care for our Crew
  • Report to VP of Integrated Production and Operations


Skills + Experience:

  • 3-5 years of resource management experience in a creative agency or similar environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, superior written and verbal communication skills and be a creative problem solver
  • Proven experience working across cross-functional teams
  • Natural leadership, motivational and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with enterprise management application software
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required
