Senior Product Designer

As a Senior Product Designer at Big Spaceship you will work within multidisciplinary design teams bringing to life products, platforms and services that deliver maximum value to our clients and their customers.

In this role you will help execute each phase of the design process from research through synthesis & ideation, to UX & visual design and prototyping.

The ideal candidate for this role is a strong collaborator who has a solid understanding of user-centered design, a passion for creating meaningful and innovative experiences that push the boundaries of what’s possible, while adapting to changing demands and constraints. Candidate should have prior experience building flexible, modular design systems for web and native mobile applications.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute as a design leader to develop flow diagrams, wireframes, sketches, and prototypes as well as deliver highly polished visual design layouts.
  • Recognize and recommend the most efficient and effective type of deliverable and level of fidelity for the task at hand.
  • Evolve established design systems and create new comprehensive design systems from scratch.
  • Lead and participate in collaborative sketch sessions and design reviews.
  • Participate in qualitative and quantitative research activities to uncover user needs and pain points.
  • Participate in business stakeholder interviews to uncover business goals.
  • Clearly and confidently present work while providing rationale for decisions made.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with other disciplines.
  • Contribute to pitches and business development efforts.
  • Take part in recruitment of new talent by participating in screenings, interviews and reviews of portfolios and resumes.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or 5+ years of equivalent practical experience.
  • A portfolio of work that contains examples of UX and visual design for native mobile applications and responsive web design systems.
  • Deep understanding of iOS and Android design patterns and guidelines, responsive web techniques and accessibility best practices.
  • Expert level skill with Sketch and experience with advanced functionality like Symbols, Shared Libraries and plugins.
  • Ability to prototype user journeys with InVision and create true to life micro-interaction prototypes with Principal and/or Keynote.
  • Ability to recognize when to work autonomously and when collaboration with the larger team is necessary.
  • Exceptional design sensibilities coupled with a deep desire to understand real users motivations, behaviors and goals.
  • Knowledge of design/ux trends and best practices.
  • Experience working with internal, third party and client side development teams and preparing design assets, annotated designs and flow diagrams for hand-off.
  • Experience with waterfall, agile, lean and hybrid design and development workflows.
  • Keen interest in designing experiences for wearables, large screen and automotive platforms, as well as conversational, AR/VR and other mediums that go beyond the screen.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to present work, express opinions, design rationale, as well as give and receive feedback in a constructive and collaborative manner within internal teams and in front of client stakeholders.
