Product Management Director

The Product Management Director is responsible for leading the Big Spaceship Product Management discipline, tasked with creating digital products, platforms and services, for our clients. In this role, you will be guiding project teams towards a long-term vision while being grounded in customer value, business goals and technical capabilities. As a discipline lead, you will be tasked with defining the product management practice within Big Spaceship ,educating internal teams and clients on product management best practices and growing our client relationships.



Build the Product Management Discipline   
  • Define the processes, tools and deliverables for the Product Management discipline
  • Manage, coach and mentor the Product Management team members
  • Create career development plans for the Product Management team members
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring processes for new Product Management team members
  • Ensure Product Management team members are properly resourced, supported and setup for success
Lead Product Management
  • Facilitate and own the creation of products that achieve customer and business objectives by working closely with UX, Design, Technology, Analytics and Production disciplines
  • Develop maintain short-term roadmaps and long-term product strategies across multiple accounts and projects
  • Lead product development and drive outcomes through attention to detail and adaptability
  • Plan and lead stakeholder interviews and workshops to gather requirements, business goals and user needs
  • Have a cohesive view into all the various work streams in order to plan the full product roadmap combining features, systems integrations, releases and milestones                                                
  • Create detailed sprint plans and set up/maintain Jira tickets and report structure, managing UX, Design, content creation and technical tasks
  • Review creative and technical work to ensure it aligns with product goals and business needs
  • Be the go-to person for questions about the product functionality, business rules, technical limitations and future capabilities
  • Lead backlog grooming and sprint planning sessions
  • Manage Pre-launch activities, launch planning and post-launch analysis/release planning
  • Review project deliverables to ensure they align with product goals and business needs
  • Think both creatively and strategically while staying focused on timelines, budgets and technical capabilities
  • Have a clear understanding of what languages, frameworks, and architecture are required throughout the product development cycle.
Maintain and Grow Client Partnerships
  • Own the development of a product, working collaboratively with clients and other discipline leads to create and maintain product vision, requirements and roadmaps.
  • Build client trust through problem solving, candor, and decision-making skills
  • Be the primary liaison between Big Spaceship project teams and client stakeholders (i.e. product, marketing, technology, etc)

Lead conversations about product opportunities to drive strategic value for partners and Big Spaceship


  • BA/BS degree or higher
  • 8+ years experience as a product manager  (including working at an agency or consultancy) with a consistent track record of developing consumer-facing products and systems
  • An understanding of web and mobile application architecture
  • An understanding of web technologies including knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and a backend programming language i.e. Python
  • Familiarity with best practices and capabilities around CMS, CRM, web and app development
  • Familiarity with tools such as Invision, JIRA, Slack, and Hipchat
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering digital products and services from concept through to execution and maintenance
  • Expert proficiency with Jira (managing user stories, filtering, reporting, issue management)  
  • Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies experience leading the following types of workshops:
    • Product conception, feature definition, feature prioritization, effort estimation, functional definition and release planning
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of product pricing/placement, market research, competitive analysis and GTM strategies
  • Expertise in developing and presenting product roadmaps and sprint plans
  • Proven track record of working with multi-disciplined teams (offshore/nearshore/on site) across UX, Design, Analytics, Technology and Quality Assurance in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable presenting and defending work to clients, both in formal presentation meetings and one-on-one sessions
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, leadership, presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Agency experience is a mandatory.
